Hindu Kush is a landrace from the high mountains on the border of Pakistan and Afghanistan also known as the Hindu Kush region of the Himalayan Mountains. “Kush” means killing and this area got its name from the massive slaughters of the Hindu race that took place there, it was meant to ward people away but without the knowledge of what had happened due to censored education, people didn’t know what it meant. It is said that the remaining Hindu’s that were fortunate enough to get away became the traveling people a.k.a. gypsies that travelled as far as western Europe. In essence, they were refugees. The Seeds Depot is dedicated to preservation of this and other landrace strains.
