This landrace sativa strain comes from the mountains in the Pacific Coast region of the central valley of Oaxaca, Mexico. It is one of the most fertile areas of Latin America. Cannabis has been thriving here for very long, and since the introduction to the US and Canada in the 70’s Oaxaca Sativa is considered one of the most famous Latin American landraces. The cost for about an ounce (or a “lid” - 4 finger baggy or 5 if your supplier was generous) was between $40-$80. Over 16 different ethnic groups make up the population of about 3.5million people and cannabis is second to coffee production. Oaxacan Sativa genetics have been recognized by famous cannabis breeders like Neville, DJ Short and the Haze Brothers and play a part in very famous strains are crossed with it such as: The famous Blueberry, Super Silver Haze & Neville’s Haze. Eldorado from Sativa Seed Bank and Niagara from Dr. Greenthumb are some of the strains available today. This is an endangered strain and the future of the original genetics are uncertain as hybridization with the introduction of Columbian genes has taken place and the area has a high level of drug-related crime.
